Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Openworked 15305ST: The Royal Oak With Nothing to Hide
Some watches tell you what they do. The 15305ST shows you. The steel Openworked Royal Oak takes the octagon Gerald Genta sketched in 1971 and strips away everything that is not structural, leaving the movement to do all the talking. At 39mm it sits right in the sweet spot of the Royal Oak line: big enough to show off the architecture of the calibre, compact enough to wear the way a Royal Oak should.
What makes the 15305ST special today is its place in the story. It was produced for a relatively short run before Audemars Piguet moved the openworked concept to the 41mm 15407ST Double Balance Wheel. For collectors who feel the Royal Oak is at its best at 39mm, this is the steel openworked reference to own, and clean examples are not getting any easier to find.
Design & Movement
Inside beats the calibre 3129, openworked and hand finished throughout: bevelled bridges, grained surfaces and an openworked gold rotor, visible from the front and through the sapphire caseback. It runs at 21,600 vph with around 60 hours of power reserve. The stainless steel case and integrated bracelet carry the signature Royal Oak finishing, brushed surfaces with sharply polished bevels, and the octagonal bezel with its eight hexagonal screws.
Provenance & Condition
This example dates from 2014 and comes as a full set with box and papers.
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Openworked 15305ST: in our opinion, the most honest Royal Oak ever made. Everything it does, you can see.
