Cartier Panthère 1120: The Original, in Steel and Gold

When Cartier introduced the Panthère in 1983, it built the watch around its bracelet. The square case with its eight screw bezel sits almost flush with the links, and the bracelet drapes like fabric rather than a strap. It became one of the defining watches of the eighties and nineties, and when Cartier brought it back in 2017, it was the original design the new one followed.

This is the reference 1120, the small model in steel and 18k yellow gold. Two tone Panthères were made with either one or two rows of gold links; this example has a single central row of gold, the cleaner of the two, which keeps the bracelet light and lets the gold bezel do the talking. The white dial with Roman numerals and the secret signature is the classic Panthère face. To be transparent: the watch comes without box or papers, so we cannot give an exact year. We date it to the original Panthère production window rather than guess.
