Every gold Day-Date wore the fluted bezel that has become the Rolex signature, but platinum was simply too difficult to machine and polish into those sharp, precise facets. The smooth bezel became the quiet tell of the platinum President.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThat changed in 2022. After years of developing a new in house manufacturing process, Rolex introduced the 228236, the first Day-Date with a fluted bezel made in 950 platinum. From that moment on, the platinum Day-Date was offered only with a fluted or gem set bezel, and the smooth bezel was retired.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe ice blue dial remains the platinum giveaway. Rolex reserves it for its platinum watches, and on this example it is paired with raised Roman numerals, one of the most classic configurations of the reference.
