Find me one like itPatek Philippe Nautilus 3800J: Yellow Gold, Blue Dial, 1986
The 3800 arrived in 1981 as the smaller sibling of Gérald Genta's original Nautilus, and in the eighties Patek also made it in solid gold. The 3800J pairs an 18k yellow gold case and bracelet with the blue embossed dial, and the contrast between the warm gold and that deep blue is eighties Patek at its best: bold, elegant and a little unconventional.
This example was exceptional. The case was thick and well defined, the finishing still crisp, and the dial untouched, with the richness you only find on a well preserved original. It came with its original certificate from 1986, which puts it in a different league altogether. Finding a 3800J is one thing; finding one with its original paperwork, in this state, is something else entirely.
