Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15300ST: The Steel Royal Oak That Set the Template

The 15300 had a short life and a loyal following. Introduced in 2005 and replaced by the 15400 in 2012, it was the reference that moved the Royal Oak from 36mm to 39mm without losing the proportions that made the original work. Purists will always point to the 15202 as the true jumbo, but the 15300 is the one most collectors actually wear, and the one that quietly defined what a modern Royal Oak would be.

In black tapisserie it is the version people picture when they picture a Royal Oak. The waffle does its usual trick of changing character with the light, flat and dark one moment, alive the next, and steel keeps the whole thing honest. This is the Royal Oak as a watch you put on every morning rather than a statement you make, which is precisely why the 15300 has aged into a quiet collector favourite instead of a hype reference.
