Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15450OR: 37mm in Rose Gold

The 15450 is the Royal Oak for people who find 41mm too much and 34mm too little. At 37mm it lands where the original sat in spirit if not exactly in millimetres, and it is the size a lot of collectors settle on once they have tried the rest of the range. In solid rose gold it stops being a steel sports watch entirely. This is jewellery that happens to keep excellent time, and it makes no apology for it.

The grey dial is what makes this one work. Rose gold paired with a warm dial tips over easily, but grey tapisserie cools the whole thing down and lets the case carry the watch. The waffle shifts constantly against the pink metal depending on how you hold it. A solid gold Royal Oak also has a density that photographs never convey, and 37mm is the diameter where that weight reads as substantial rather than simply heavy.
