Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5066A Tritium: Burned In by Time

The earliest Aquanauts were made when tritium was still used for luminous material. Unlike modern Luminova, tritium changes as it ages, reacting to light, heat and humidity, and no two dials end up the same. On the 5066 this is the detail that separates the early pieces from everything after.

On this example the lume plots had developed warm brown flecks, the kind of burn that only decades produce. Some collectors avoid it. Others look for exactly this, because it can never be replicated. It was offered as watch only, confirmed by an Extract from the Archives.

36mm stainless steel case, black embossed dial with tritium lume, sapphire caseback, automatic caliber 330 SC with date. Fitted to the original tropical strap.
